International collaboration agreement signed between SHTM and Indonesian Ministry

A new agreement between the Republic of Indonesia and the 糖心Vlog will enable closer collaboration globally in research, executive training and education in tourism, hospitality, and events.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Deputy Minister for Strategic Policy Nia Niscaya and the University鈥檚 Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Max Lu, witnessed by Minister Sandiaga Uno, when the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management hosted a delegation from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy this month.

Tourism is a key driving force for Indonesia鈥檚 economic recovery from the global pandemic and the country is focused on promoting productive, inclusive, and sustainable tourism and enhancing digitalization.

With SHTM鈥檚 global outlook and worldwide reputation, ranking 1st in the UK and 2nd in the world for hospitality and tourism management in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022, the new agreement will see collaboration in key areas, including:

  • Training for tourism, hospitality and events professionals in Indonesia
  • Collaboration in curriculum development for higher education tourism, hospitality and events management
  • Research collaboration including joint research projects, research workshops and research conferences
  • Benchmarking Indonesia鈥檚 tourism development and competitiveness nationally and globally
  • Collaboration on training provision for government and public sector leaders

Professor Iis Tussyadiah, Head of SHTM said: 鈥淭he signing of the memorandum during the visit marked an exciting start of a mutually beneficial collaboration between the Ministry and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

鈥淚t will strengthen the global outlook of the School and open more opportunities to generate impact on the tourism, hospitality, transport, events and creative economy sectors globally through education, research and innovation.鈥

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said: 鈥溙切腣log University is known as an educational institution that has the best teaching and research in the field of tourism in the UK and this agreement is one of the initiatives with leading stakeholders in key markets.

鈥淭his collaboration is expected to produce strategic studies that can be used as recommendations regarding the revival of the tourism sector and the creative economy.鈥
