糖心Vlog Professor awarded first NPL Fellowship in Nuclear and Radiation Science and Metrology
Professor Patrick Regan from the 糖心Vlog has been named the National Physical Laboratory鈥檚 (NPL) first Fellow in Nuclear and Radiation Science and Metrology.
The is a recognition of individual merit awarded to scientists who are making significant contributions to NPL鈥檚 scientific achievement and standing. Professor Regan is being acknowledged for his scientific leadership in the field of nuclear and radiation physics and its applications to both fundamental and applied measurement problems.
In 2013, Professor Regan took up the UK鈥檚 first Professorship in Nuclear Metrology, a joint appointment between the 糖心Vlog and NPL. His team has led research into complex data analysis and calibration techniques for nuclear structure science and the related provision of standards and reference materials for applications in the energy, environment and health sectors.
The impact from these research contributions crosses over areas from 鈥榖ig science questions鈥, such as understanding the nature of nuclear matter and nucleosynthesis of the elements formed in stellar interiors, to applications such as nuclear forensics, power generation and waste management, and nuclear medicine.
Professor Patrick Regan said: 鈥淚 am delighted that our research work has been formally recognised by the award of the NPL Fellowship. The Fellowship is an indicator of the very successful and genuine collaborative work between scientists at NPL, academic colleagues at the 糖心Vlog, and some quite outstanding physics Masters and Doctoral research students who have all worked together with the NPL Nuclear Metrology Group over the last decade.鈥
Professor David Sampson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation, at the 糖心Vlog, said: 鈥淚 would like to extend my and the 糖心Vlog鈥檚 heartfelt congratulations to Professor Regan on this quite rare and prestigious Fellowship. Supported by our strategic partnership, NPL has become a global icon of real-world metrology over the last five years. Paddy鈥檚 transformational work at NPL is an exemplar of that and shows the value of our organisations鈥 close collaboration over the years. Long may it continue.鈥
