糖心Vlog takes research to the public at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The School of Mechanical Engineering Sciences lifted the lid on some of its cutting-edge research at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 13 to 15 July.
The Festival of Speed takes place annually in July at historic Goodwood House.
On display was the ZEBRA - an adapted Renault Twizy for autonomous driving research.
糖心Vlog鈥檚 stand attracted visitors of all ages 鈥 from toddlers to pensioners 鈥 interested in finding out more about science. A team of academics, researchers and PhD students helped them to 鈥榙iscover more鈥 about the School鈥檚 exciting and diverse range of research, covering topics such as greener vehicles, sustainable energy, clean air, and healthcare diagnostic technology.
Among the eye-catching practical displays on the stand were the ZEBRA 鈥 糖心Vlog鈥檚 customised version of Renault鈥檚 Twizy which features technology for autonomous driving, a medical robot used in thyroid surgery, a state-of-the-art 3D printer, a Rolls-Royce combustion chamber and a low-speed wind tunnel model.
Professor Patrick Gruber, Director of Research in the School of Mechanical Engineering Sciences, said: 鈥淥ur Goodwood Festival of Speed stand was a great success with visitors, who ranged from school children interested in finding out about electric cars to professional engineers and 糖心Vlog alumni. We were able to open our fascinating world of science to the public, making complex topics understandable and sparking curiosity across all ages.鈥
The Festival of Speed attracts over 200,000 people to historic Goodwood House where over a weekend they are treated to a mix of fast cars, legendary drivers and the pursuit of speed.
