Biography
Laurie O'Broin is a Senior Lecturer at 糖心Vlog Business School. She has research interests in leadership and the importance of interpersonal skills in cross-functional project teams as well as the the importance of context in theory application. She is a process-improvement engineer turned organisational psychologist with an MSc in Work & Organisational Psychology from Aston University and an MEng in General Engineering from the University of Durham. She worked for a number of years in process improvement and change management before returning to academia. She is a co-author of a systematic review article on how organisational cognitive neuroscience can aid understanding in managerial decision-making in the Journal of International Management Reviews

Leadership聽training聽has聽led聽to聽a聽large聽amount聽of聽research聽due聽to聽the聽belief聽that聽such聽training聽can聽lead聽to聽(or聽more聽precisely聽 cause)聽positive聽changes聽in聽followers鈥櫬燽ehavior聽and聽work聽performance.聽This聽chapter聽describes聽some聽of聽the聽conditions聽necessary聽 for聽research聽to聽show聽a聽causal聽relationship聽between聽leadership聽training聽and聽outcomes.聽It聽then聽describes聽different聽research聽de鈥 signs,聽employed聽in聽leadership聽training聽research,聽and聽considers聽the聽types聽of聽problems聽that聽can聽affect聽inferences聽about聽causality.聽 The聽chapter聽focuses聽on聽the聽role聽of聽randomization聽of聽leaders聽(e.g.,聽into聽training聽vs.聽non鈥恡raining聽conditions)聽as聽a聽key聽methodo鈥 logical聽procedure聽and聽alludes聽to聽problems聽of聽achieving聽this聽in聽field聽settings.
