Biography
Wei Zhang is a PhD researcher in Translation and Interpreting Studies at the Centre for Translation Studies (CTS), 糖心Vlog, UK. She holds an MA in Translation and Interpreting, a BSc in Life Science and Biotechnology, and an MRes in Biomedicine (Cancer Biology).
Wei is a CATTI certified translator who has worked as a freelance interpreter/translator for exhibition events, education, and public services including healthcare and immigration, in the UK and China. Her work experience also involves teaching Translation (Chinese to English) as well as language teaching and tutoring of Chinese and English to non-native speakers (i.e., TESOL). As a postgraduate researcher and a past medical interpreter for the NHS, Wei is particularly interested in investigating various modalities of healthcare interpreting and unfolding their multimodal complexities. In her PhD thesis, she conducted a mixed-methods study involving an in-depth critical review and a survey on remote healthcare interpreting (i.e., via telephone interpreting and video (conference) interpreting).
Apart from technology-enabled multilingual spoken-language health communication, her research interests also involve other types of community interpreting, consecutive interpreting and remote interpreting, TESOL, corpus-based interpreter/translator training, training and education of interpreters in higher education in the age of human-machine integration, etc.
