Gamma-rays in fusion reactions: Towards a new plasma diagnostic tool in future fusion plants
Start date
01 January 2022End date
30 June 2022Overview
This project will support theoretical work necessary for understanding and modelling of high-energy gamma-rays observed in collisions between deuterons and tritons that generate fusion energy, thereby enabling scientists to interpret the gamma-ray intensity in terms of a reactor鈥檚 interior temperature.
The project will underpin the UK鈥檚 quest for affordable fusion energy by 2040. The proposed work is also of a wider international interest as it results can be used in multi-billion-dollar international fusion facilities such as ITER (France) and the National Ignition Facility (USA).
