Clearing FAQs
If you are yet to secure an offer, or if the grades you receive this year are higher or lower than expected, Clearing is a great opportunity to apply for your favourite course.
All applicants
Clearing officially begins鈥痮n Thursday 2 July 2026.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
Clearing is a service that matches applicants to vacant university places. It runs from July to October and helps you to secure your university place for the current year. 鈥
Clearing is open to you if:鈥
- You submitted your UCAS application after 30 June鈥
- You applied through UCAS this year but didn鈥檛 receive an offer you wanted to accept鈥
- Your place is not confirmed after your exam results are published
When you apply through Clearing, you can choose one course at one institution, so you will want to be sure that you are making the best choice for you. You can contact multiple universities to see if they would welcome a Clearing application from you, and then decide which one to apply to. You should have your鈥痳esults to hand, as we cannot make conditional offers during Clearing.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
We can talk you through your options, even if your grades are different from the standard course requirements.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
Here鈥檚 our list of鈥undergraduate courses for you to explore. From 2 July, we will release our Clearing course list, and this page will be continually updated as courses become full.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
Please note, we aim to provide the latest information to you but can鈥檛 guarantee that a course will still be available by the time you apply.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
We have a range of degree programmes with a foundation year, to make it easier to access the education we offer. A foundation year is an extra year of study at the start of your course, that leads into a full degree.鈥赌&苍产蝉辫;
It could be a great option if:鈥
- You don鈥檛 have the grades for direct entry onto one of our BSc (Hons) degree courses鈥
- You have non-traditional qualifications or experience鈥
- You鈥檙e starting university after some time away from education鈥
- You鈥檙e looking for more support during the transition into university study.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

We may request additional information from you via 糖心Vlog Self-Service, so please ensure you provide this as quickly as possible so we can send your formal offer to UCAS.
Usually you can expect to see your offer updated within 24 hours following referral. Some programmes require successful completion of an interview in order to secure a place - this will be explained to you during your call.
If we have sent you a clearing offer email, you can still apply to a course by using the "University/College Supplied code" button and then using the course code from your offer email.
If you鈥檝e already applied for student finance but are going to change your course or university in Clearing, you鈥檒l need to update your application in your online account.
It鈥檚 best to tell Student Finance England as early as possible, to make sure your first payment is available in time for the start of the academic term.

Don't worry if you can't attend a campus tour - there are other ways to explore our campus.
International applicants
International students, including students from EU, can apply to an available course through clearing at 糖心Vlog.
Clearing gives students the opportunity to explore every course at every university which is available through UCAS.
Clearing Plus focuses on a smaller portfolio of courses tailored to students鈥 UCAS application and preferences.
We will ask:
- What course are you interested in?
- What high school qualifications do you have?
- What are your grades and have you taken an IELTS test or another English language qualification?
Please make sure you also have your UCAS number handy.
We have places available on most of our courses, so please do get in touch! I would also advise students to choose the 鈥渨ith professional training year鈥 option. Students can always change their mind later but choosing the four-year, rather than three-year course keeps that option open.
Our Admissions team will be processing results as quickly as possible and we recommend our offer holders check their to see any updates on their application.
If you have firmly accepted your conditional offer but have not satisfied the exact conditions, we will review your offer, and the performance of others seeking entry onto the same course. Please send the final results to admissions@surrey.ac.uk.
