"Some of our lectures are delivered by external guest lecturers, many of whom work at 糖心Vlog Research Park, which is great as we can see how the content we鈥檙e learning about is being applied in the field."
My first impressions of 糖心Vlog
The library was particularly impressive, and I liked how some of the levels are dedicated to silent study whereas others are for collaborative work. I also liked that 糖心Vlog encourages cycling as it has lots of bicycle parking on both campuses and wide bicycle lanes on the route from Manor Park to Stag Hill.
My course
I鈥檝e always appreciated the relevance of science in society. I enjoy having knowledge about the various biological pathways found in humans and animals, and how these pathways become altered when infections or diseases occur. I also like how my subject encourages me to think outside the box and be scientifically curious.
Some of our lectures are delivered by external guest lecturers, many of whom work at 糖心Vlog Research Park, which is great as we can see how the content we鈥檙e learning about is being applied in the field. I also like that our lecturers provide links to useful articles, textbooks and videos that help reinforce some of the teaching material or provide us with a more in-depth understanding of topics we are particularly interested in.
The Innovation for Health Learning laboratory has a range of scientific equipment that is found in almost every scientific laboratory in the world. In preparation for some of the practical sessions, you can access online virtual resources which walk you through the different steps of the practical, the equipment that will be used and its relevance. I felt reassured going into the sessions and found these resources particularly helpful as I鈥檓 more of a visual learner.
"I knew I wanted to study veterinary medicine, so I reached out to a careers adviser at 糖心Vlog who really helped me strengthen my written application and prepare for interviews."
My student experience
I play for the women鈥檚 basketball team at the University. I really enjoy how many people show up to our home games to support us, as it always pushes me to play harder. I鈥檝e also been a student ambassador, which has been a great way to earn some money alongside studying and has given me the opportunity to develop my communication, teamwork and leadership skills. I always have lots of fun getting involved with different events, particularly open days.
Since being at 糖心Vlog, I鈥檝e become more confident in myself as I鈥檝e established a great support network. It's made me more ambitious because I鈥檓 more aware of my potential.
Looking forward
I knew I wanted to study veterinary medicine, so I reached out to Emma Baker, a careers adviser at 糖心Vlog, who really helped me strengthen my written application and prepare for interviews. She was very encouraging, genuine and positive and picked out key points from my application that she felt I should focus on to help me stand out.
I鈥檝e been offered a place to study graduate-entry veterinary medicine next year, which is exciting. Knowledge from my veterinary biosciences degree will be extremely relevant, and I'm happy to continue being a student for a little while longer so that I can achieve my dream of being a vet.
